Job title: Relationship therapist

Location: Lincoln, Bedford, Clapham, Oxford, Stockport, Gateshead, Cardiff or home-based online counselling.

Hours: Full-time and part-time roles are available (21 hours, 15 hours, or 10 hours per week). 50% of hours after 6pm Monday-Thursday and/or Friday and Saturday mornings 9am-12pm

Salary: £9,783 - £38,352 depending on hours

Annual Leave: For a full-time appointment: 25 days per annum, plus public holidays and the period between 27 December and 1 January (three days)

Pension scheme: Auto-enrolment in Relate’s pension scheme

Contract Type: Permanent and sessional roles available

Job Purpose

To deliver high quality, clinically effective, and professional therapy to Relate clients in line with Relate’s standards and policies within the terms of Relate’s client service specifications.

To work collaboratively with colleagues to ensure our services are accessible to all sections of the community.

Areas of responsibility

 

Ethical Practice and Counselling:

  • Adhere to the codes of ethics and practice adopted by Relate and relevant Counselling Professional bodies.
  • Be aware of and adhere to all Relate policies and practices, including child protection and confidentiality, to ensure the safety of clients and staff.
  • To maintain confidential records according to the data protection regulations and Relate procedures.
  • To participate in individual and group supervision in line with Relate's supervision and consultation policy, case supervision groups and counsellor team meetings.
  • To take responsibility for professional development and training as agreed with Supervisor and line management to maintain your professional status and to meet business development needs.
  • To work collaboratively with the Federation to ensure the relationship therapy is delivered in a coordinated, professional, and efficient manner.
  • Positively and proactively undertake other duties as required by your Line Manager that are appropriate to the position.
  • Maintain up to date registration on Relate's Practitioner Directory.
  • To ensure at all times you have an up to date and relevant DBS. This must be applied for in a timely manner to ensure no drop in provision of counselling services.

Case Management:

  • To undertake training and use Relate’s case management system daily to check appointments and complete case files including client/service monitoring forms, booking and agreeing future appointments and other ways of working as directed by Line Managers.
  • Ensure all cases are closed once therapy has ended and counsellor feedback forms have been sent.
  • To update records confirming client attendance and work with the appointments team on future bookings and administrative requests. This should be completed no later than 10am the following day.
  • To record and maintain written case notes on Relate case management system in accordance with Relate policies.
  • To work collaboratively with Relate to ensure all services are delivered in a co-ordinated, professional and efficient manner.
  • To maintain and deliver records to enable Relate to effectively monitor the service's use and client feedback within agreed timescales.
  • Positively and proactively undertake other duties as required by your Line Manager that are appropriate to the position.
     

 

The Approach

 

Practitioners must evidence:

  • One or more of the following qualifications:
    • Relationship Therapy
      • Level 5 or above qualification in Relationship Therapy from Relate OR from Relate's list of approved external training providers (APEL).
    • Children’s Counselling
      • Level 5 Diploma in Counselling AND Relate post qualifying training in counselling children or from Relate's list of approved external training providers (APEL).
    • Individual Counselling
      • Level 5 or above qualification in Relationship Therapy from Relate OR Level 5 qualification in Counselling Adult Individuals OR Level 4 Diploma in Therapeutic Counselling with a 100-hour placement.
    • Compulsive Sexual Behaviour Disorder
      • Level 5 or above qualification in Relationship Therapy and/or Sex Therapy from Relate or from Relate's list of approved external training providers (APEL).
      • They will also have as a minimum:
        • CSAT Training - 4 modules
        • OR Diploma at Level 5 accredited by CPCAB in Working with Sexual Addiction (Sexual Compulsivity), such as run by The Laurel Centre, Therapy Institute, The CICS and Marylebone Centre
        • OR an equivalent Level 5 or above qualification in working with Compulsive Sexual Behaviours approved via the APEL process
        • OR a COSRT or ATSAC approved Level 5 training or above in working with Compulsive Sexual Behaviours.
    • Family Therapy
      • A Relate Certificate in Family Counselling OR an external 2 year AFT accredited course in Family Counselling OR a Level 5 Diploma in Counselling AND an external 1 year AFT accredited course in Family Counselling OR from Relate's list of approved external training providers (APEL).
    • Sex Therapy
      • Relate Diploma in Psychosexual Therapy OR Relate Post Graduate Diploma in Psychosexual Therapy OR the Relate Professional Certificate in Psychosexual Therapy (2016) OR from Relate's list of approved external training providers (APEL).
    • Young Persons Counselling
      • A Level 5 Diploma in Counselling And: Relate Post Qualifying Training in Counselling Young People (11 -25) OR from Relate's list of approved external training providers (APEL).
    • One Session Therapy and Chat with a Counsellor
      • Qualified to Level 5 or above in Adult Relationship Therapy and 1 of the following:
        • Relate Short Intervention training incorporating One Session Therapy & Chat with a Counsellor.
        • 1 session therapy training delivered by Windy Dryden to focus from LNEE' One session Training
        • COSRT One session Therapy training
        • Relate's list of approved external training providers (APEL).
        • For delivery by Telephone: Relate telephone training or equivalent.
  • 200 hours above of post qualification supervised clinical practice.
  • Commitment to ongoing professional clinical development through regular counselling related CPD (Continuous Professional Development) as required by the service.
  • Ability to apply a range of counselling theories, including systemic and psychodynamic methodologies.
