The course is for counsellors working with couples or individuals where substance misuse may be a problematic factor in their relationship.
What's included in the course?
The aim of this course is to enhance the knowledge base and skill set of Relate counsellors in working with alcohol issues that are affecting people in a couple.
- Outline key research findings on the impact of alcohol misuse on couples in a relationship
- Identify a range of ways in which alcohol is used in a relationship
- Clarify the scope of your role in responding to alcohol issues in a relationship
- Describe strategies appropriate to your role for supporting couples around alcohol issues in their relationship
- Reflect on your own attitudes in response to alcohol use within a relationship
- Decide when and how to refer individuals for further support around alcohol use/misuse

How much time will it take to complete the course?
The course is designed to be completed in 210 minutes. You can do this course at your own pace, take breaks and come back at any time. You will have time to practice what you have learned.
